methinks it's feasible to diy these mounts using engineering plastic...

Wow very courageous of you sir. So I reckon you just use the 250's digital speedo reading which replaces your 'analog' one.

I was able to buy a bike mount - specifically for the 250. It's primarily for a mountain bike, but in the manual it says it's okay for scooters as well. I already mounted the mini bracket and molding to hold the unit, but haven't had the guts to actually lock in the nuvi. Am worried about the vibration and the weather (not to mention the two plain locking plastic strips holding my investment). Got some pics from the web to illustrate how it looks:

The weather-proof one I gathered would hit 4-5k so it's definitely not an option for me (sayang yung natipid ko for going with the entry-level but efficient nuvi 250).

How about you, how's your rig holding up to the vibration and wear&tear of motorcycles?

the plastic strips (if they are high quality and dont touch any sharp objects) will survive, just check them from time to time for slacking. if needed (=if you are to paranoia anyways) they could be changed by "band it" steel tape... or by electircal straps with steel inside (don't know whether they are locally available though)

for waterproofing it, pull a condom over it.
How to get the upgraded map.

                It's a sick world and I'm a happy man...

what I do is i use a waterproof plastic pouch worn around the neck. the pouch is usually at available in most shops that sell outdoor equiptments. it also has a provision for the earphone cable. voice navigation works for me. if i need to see the display, i use the neckstrap to tie the pouch to the guage or handlebar of the bike.
