    Garmin Germany compatibility

    Hey guys,

    I'm going to Germany in a few weeks and their Garmin prices are cheaper than here. Can I use a model bought in Germany and load Philippine maps on it? Would it work the same as a unit bought here?

    I doin't see a reason why not but I just want to make sure.

    I can get the following units for reasonable prices.

    Garmin nĂ¼vi 1490Tpro = ~8,000
    1340CT = ~ 5,500

    Any reason I should buy locally instead of Gerrmany?

    Thanks in advace for your hlep!

    In my Opinion. Yes no problem to buy from Germany. Just make sure that you ask them to change the language to english if it is defaulted in German. This should be standard though as I think Garmin sells the same models all over the world.

    The only reason I can think of for buying local are:
    1. If you want to be sure you can claim local warranty.
    2. If you want to have local Philippine map already when you purchase.

    When you arrive in the Philippines you might need 5 to 10 minutes for the GPS to "find" and Lock your position which is normal, after that it should already be quite fast to lock on once it "knows" your new location/country.

      I agree with Arvin555. I think many of the guys here bought their devices abroad and didn't have any problems getting them to work with the RG map. I got my Nuvi 1300 in the US and it works very well here.

      Have a great time in Germany and good luck with the shopping.
