Data loggers (moved from nuvi thread)

as we were moving severly , i decide to move the off topic part to its on thread

    pokz:

What cell phone are you using? If you have one running Windows Mobile or Symbian (at least Series 60), you can get a BT GPSr.

You can also buy the Columbus V-900 or VisionTac V-900 GPSr logger. It can be used with a terminal (PC/laptop/Phone) or as a standalone logger. It uses a microSD card.

Thanks guys. Will explore all the options you mentioned. Also got interested in upgrading my CP, have read the Nokia Sports Track option. If it will cost less than upgrading to another Garmin model, may be the way to go.

the cheapest option for tracking is a datalogger with built in gps, about 100 us. no screen no routing no nothing. just a black box.
How to get the upgraded map.

        Jan,

If datalogger is better than a nuvi in logging tracks, then I may buy one. Searched online and there are many models and brands available. Only question is what specs should I watch out for? Have seen models that have a logging interval of 5 secs. minimum (too long?). Should I stick to the brands as mentioned by amf? I'm willing to shelve out some more if performance will be compromised. Thanks again.

          specs: 1 sec sampling interval
memory: should be enough for your requirements. can't decide for you

this looks cool although as far as i know its not available in europe and it has also many options but it has MTK Chipset built in. How long does it takes to search satellites? For my opinion SIRF III chipset is still one of the best in the market.

            pro: multi functional

            cons: built-in battery.

Yeah, the chipset may be the deal breaker. A few online reviews were quite positive though.

I emailed the manufacturer (in China) on where and how it can be purchased and hasn't replied yet.

                Hi,

I just bought an i-blue 747. It has the same MTK chipset as the V-900 but it has a lower price and better reviews. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

The i-blue 747 if priced at +/-$50 is a good one. Make a review once you get your hands on it. And try to find a firmware upgrade to get rid of some problems users found with their units.:http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/t...TOPIC_ID=81315

There are a few BT GPS loggers available for sale at Infomax. You may want to take a look at it when you're in manila.

Personally, I'd still prefer one though that uses an external media to record tracks on like the V900 (plus it has lots of features).

i do like the mini sd option of the v900 as well, would completly eliminate the need of bringing a laptop. just a couple of cards and done.
ah so many choices, good thing i'm going back to sea, let you guys decide, and i'll just get what seems to be the best upon my return.

                      infomax? park square?

Sorry, I guess it's just a receiver and can't log tracks on its own.

just reread that, doesn't look completely kosher now does it

                              expanding on above statement:
which off course does not mean that i would approve of illegal links or items in the PM system.
                              we highly dissaprove of that
