    noob from Antipolo

hi i'm a Geography Student from the University of the Philippines Diliman. I'm not new in the concepts of GPS and GIS, but it is my first time to actually acquire a gps (handed out to me by my father). and im forced to study GPS really fast since i'm leaving for Agusan marsh next week (field work). Anyway i'll be glad to upload the data i will acquire here. any help and tips would be really appreciated. im using garmin etrex legend (which I think is kinda outdated)

    cheers

    welcome to the forums,
nothing is outdated and sometimes the older models have features the newer ones don't have (think 1s tracklogs and stuff like that).
How to get the upgraded map.

    It's a sick world and I'm a happy man...

Hi and welcome to the forum. Be sure to read the FAQ's and "How to's" to fastrack your understanding on how to contribute data. We've a few GPS tips here http://roadguide.ph/forums/showthread.php?t=183 that may apply to your Etrex.

You can load an older but perfectly usable version of the map (for junior members) to your Etrex here: http://roadguide.ph/forums/showthread.php?t=3

Remember though that it will overwrite whatever map you have in your Etrex, so be warned. And i think there's no way to back-up the existing map in your GPS, unless you have the basemap in Mapsource (that you can upload back to the GPS and/or combine with our map). Also, memory cap. might be a problem so try to check first if your Etrex can accomodate the whole mapsets of the PI. If not, make do with the mapset in the area where you will be working on (i.e. Luzon mapset only).

Other helpful info can be found here:

      Good luck.
