Based on feedback in some discussion boards, it's effective. It will work with any GPS device including GPS-equipped phones. Some users report a 2-3m accuracy with this contraption. A shop in HK is selling a battery-powered one (3 x AA) and is more portable.

One of my ride has metal-impregnated window tint and my iPhone is having a hard time holding its lock.

I found a DIY schematic for a re-radiating module. All I need now is an external active GPS antenna. Anyone know where I can buy one locally?
