i just wanna tell a experiance i had while recording some tracks in San Fernando Pampaga. I had found an area with lots of unrecorded roads and was really getting some good data. I had been roaming around for something like 3 hours and got thirsty. I decided to stop at a small sari sari store to get a drink. I was quicky surrounded by many kids asking questions on what im doing and such. I even talked with the old lady who own the store as a couple them kids belonged to her. Now here is where my storys gets interesting
i finished my drink and was about to get started again and for the first time my bike didnt wanna start. Now here i am in a strange place , no tools and a dead battery. I had thought to call one my friends but im sure they wouldn't been able to find me. I attempted to get the side cover off with my house key so i can get at the battery, well that wasn't working. One of the young boys about 9 years old ask me what i needed and i told him philips screwdriver. He took off in his house and came back with one.
I took my battery off and asked about a parts shop close by but was told its kinda far. It was farther than i wanted to walk. The young boy said he would go with me and show me where to get a battery. He turned out to be the son of the old lady at the store, and he called one these pedal bikes to take us. The old lady said don't worry my bike as she would watch out for it , so off i went. The young boy escorted me to get a battery and back , which help me alot since im not good in tagalog. I had forgotten to remove my 276c gps from the mount on the bike. Now when i remembered that i had a shock but when i retured , all was just fine. i replaced the battery and was good to go then. I took some more time and had another drink and bought a few pops for the kids around. I tried my best to explained what i was doing riding around there and some people actually was understanding me.
I wanted to tell this story as i had thought i was gonna be in some deep kimche with a flat battery. I met some really great people and made some good friends. I went back yesterday and i brought my wife to translate for me to let them know i really appreciated their help.
I just have to say im happy , that even in some far places you find good people. I love being a member of roadguide and getting to meet people like this is great.
